JULIE DELPY: Vanguard Award

We are proud to honor actor, writer, director, and two-time Oscar nominee Julie Delpy with the Vail Film Festival Vanguard award for her outstanding achievement in film, both in front of and behind the camera. Julie Delpy was born in Paris and first featured in Jean-Luc Godard’s Detective at the age of fourteen. She studied filmmaking at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and has directed, written, or acted in more than 50 films, including Europa Europa, Voyager with Sam Shepard, Three Colors: White, An American Werewolf in Paris, Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers starring opposite Bill Murray, and The Air I Breathe starring with Kevin Bacon and Andy Garcia. She wrote, directed, and starred in 2 Days in Paris with Adam Goldberg, and wrote and starred in Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight, with co-writer and co-star Ethan Hawke. She wrote, directed, and starred in Lolo which premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, and in her most recent role she stars with J.K. Simmons in the 2017 film The Whole New Everything. She has been nominated for two Academy Awards and won three Cesar Awards, among many other industry accolades.



Golden Globe®, SAG®, and Emmy® nominee Christina Ricci is one of Hollywood's most respected actors and we are proud to honor her with the 2017 Vail Film Festival Renegade Award. Christina Ricci currently stars in and executive produces the Amazon original series Z: The Beginning of Everything. Ricci earned a 2016 SAG Award® nomination as the title character in the television series, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles. She received great acclaim in Ang Lee's ensemble film, The Ice Storm, co-starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver, and went on to star in The Opposite of Sex where she was nominated for a Golden Globe® Award, an American Comedy Award, and an Independent Spirit Award. Soon after, Ricci starred as Layla in Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66, earning a National Board of Review Best Supporting Actress Award for her combined efforts in The Opposite of Sex, Buffalo 66 and John Water's Pecker. She was critically acclaimed for her performances in Patty Jenkins' Monster, opposite Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Wes Craven's Cursed, Woody Allen's romantic comedy Anything Else, Sally Potter's The Man Who Cried and had a memorable cameo in Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Ricci also starred opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, for which she won the Blockbuster Entertainment Award.
